It serves to provide the local community with fresh, local produce. This in turn helps to protect our environment by supporting the sound farming practices that have shaped our beautiful Weald landscape. It also benefits the environment through reducing the distance that food travels from the producer to the consumer, cutting down on goods transport and pollution. Finally, it boosts our local economy by keeping money spent within the local community and businesses, and adding to the vibrancy of the town centre.
Local produce for local people
Tunbridge Wells Farmers' Market has been running since 1999 and is now a popular and regular event in the town centre. It is organised and run by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.
We abide by the 'FARMA' national association rules of membership for selecting our stallholders. This sets a standard, to ensure that the stallholders themselves are legitimate and also that the produce that they bring along to the market is their own. There is also an amount of judgement required on behalf of the staff who run the market, in order to maintain a healthy balance of stalls throughout the year and therefore ensure good footfall and customer loyalty.
Venue
The Market takes place on Civic Way (outside the Town Hall) Royal Tunbridge Wells, on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 9am-2pm.
