Additional Restrictions Grant (Discretionary)

Tunbridge Wells is focussing the Discretionary Grant (Additional Restrictions Grant - ARG) on the following types of business:

  • businesses in the retail, leisure or hospitality sectors
  • businesses in the arts, entertainment or events sectors
  • businesses that supply the retail, leisure, hospitality, arts, entertainment or events sectors
  • businesses that supply personal care services

The following criteria will be applied under the Tunbridge Wells ARG scheme:

  • Businesses that have been legally required to close because of the national restrictions that came into force on 5 November 2020, but are unable to claim through the Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed) as they are not the business ratepayer (e.g. the business is within shared premises, home based, a B&B or a market trader).
  • Businesses that have not been legally required to close, but have fixed costs and have experienced a significant reduction in income because they supply goods or services to the non-essential retail, hospitality, leisure, arts, entertainment, events  or personal care sectors.

Businesses must also have:

  • a trading address in Tunbridge Wells borough. Where a business is registered in another council area but trades from the borough, the council will take a view on the application on a case by case basis.
  • been trading on 4 November 2020.

Before you start

To apply you will need to provide the following evidence.

  • an invoice proving trade with a closed business dated within the last 3 months
  • evidence of fixed costs (e.g. rent, lease or mortgage evidence)

If you are a business already in receipt of the Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) but are seeking to apply for a top up from the Additional Restrictions Grant, please note that the Council will only be considering these applications in exceptional circumstances where this is essential to support the wider local economy.

However, where businesses feel that they have a case, contact with the council on businesscovid19@tunbridgewells.gov.uk will be required prior to an ARG application being submitted.

The Council will reject applications submitted without prior discussion and acknowledgement.

For more information please review the ARG guidance.

The application closes at midnight on Thursday 31 December.
