Additional Restrictions Grant (Discretionary)

Tunbridge Wells is focussing the Discretionary Grant (Additional Restrictions Grant - ARG) on the following types of business:

  • businesses in the retail, leisure or hospitality sectors
  • businesses in the arts, entertainment or events sectors
  • businesses that supply the retail, leisure, hospitality, arts, entertainment or events sectors
  • businesses that supply personal care services

The following criteria will be applied under the Tunbridge Wells ARG scheme:

  • Businesses that have been legally required to close because of the national restrictions that came into force on 5 November 2020, but are unable to claim through the Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed) as they are not the business ratepayer (e.g. the business is within shared premises, home based, a B&B or a market trader).
  • Businesses that have not been legally required to close, but have fixed costs and have experienced a significant reduction in income because they supply goods or services to the non-essential retail, hospitality, leisure, arts, entertainment, events  or personal care sectors.

Businesses must also have:

  • a trading address in Tunbridge Wells borough. Where a business is registered in another council area but trades from the borough, the council will take a view on the application on a case by case basis.
  • been trading on 4 November 2020.
