Support when self-isolating


From 28 September 2020 there is a legal duty for you to self-isolate If you have been told by the NHS Test and Trace service to self-isolate.

This could either because you have tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19 or you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

Financial support

Test and Trace Support Payments

Test and Trace Support Payment also referred to as a Self-Isolation Payment is a one off payment to help support people on low income who are unable to work and have a reduction in income because they are legally required to self isolate.

People who are eligible will receive a lump sum payment of £500.

Discretionary Support Payments

If you have been told to self-isolate and are on a low income but don't qualify for a Test and Trace Support Payment you may be able to get help through the discretionary scheme.

If you do not meet the main qualifying criteria for a Test and Trace Support Payment but are experiencing exceptional financial hardship you my qualify for a Discretionary Test and Trace Support Payment

Other support

NHS volunteers

The NHS Volunteers scheme can provide help with various day to day activities that might be more difficult during the pandemic. This includes help with shopping for food and essential items, and to collect and deliver prescriptions from the pharmacy

You’re eligible for support if:

  • You have ever been advised to shield by a health professional.
  • You are vulnerable for another reason, (for instance, due to disability, pregnancy, aged over 70, you have a long-term condition such as Parkinson's or epilepsy, or are vulnerable due to a mental health condition).
  • You have caring responsibilities.
  • You are self-isolating because you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or have symptoms, or you’ve been in contact with someone who has.
  • You are self-isolating ahead of planned hospital care.
  • You have been instructed to self-isolate following entry into the country.
