We collect information from you when you visit our website; also when you contact us in writing, speak to us on the phone, by email or any other type of electronic communication, or talk to us face to face.

For parking consultations

We collect personal information about you such as your name, address and email address.

For disabled persons parking bay applications

We collect personal information about you such as your name, address, date of birth and email address. We also collect information about your vehicle including registration documents, insurance certificates, your driving licence and the vehicle index number.

Sometimes we collect other information that you may feel is sensitive to you. This may include your Blue Badge details (including photocopies of both sides, including number and photograph), documentary proof of benefits received and/or details of the hire agreement or Motability hire agreement. There may be cases where we contact your General Practitioner to endorse an application for a disabled persons parking bay, however no medical records are shared.

For parking consultations

When considering the introduction of new parking restrictions, we undertake public consultations. Comments, support and objections that you submit to proposals are required in writing, and your name, address and email address will be used to analyse and categorise responses.  It also ensures that all replies are from a single source. We provide this service because it is in the public interest to do so, but when you respond to a consultation, you are also giving us your consent to use your personal information. You don’t have to do this, but we may not be able to consider your response if you chose not to.

For disabled persons parking bay applications

To apply for an on-street disabled persons parking bay in a residential area, applicants must comply with strict criteria set out by Kent County Council. This includes providing personal and sensitive information and documentary proof of eligibility. We provide this service because it is in the public interest to do so, and when you apply for a disabled persons parking bay, you are giving us consent to use your personal information for this purpose. You don’t have to give us consent, but if you chose not to, we won’t be able to continue with your application.

When processing applications for disabled persons parking bays, we use your information to assess whether you meet the criteria for providing a bay.

Sometimes we may provide information to other authorities, organisations or people. This would be for the prevention or detection of crime, or because of legal matters, for example. We do not need your consent to do this however, if we can, we shall let you know that information has been passed on.

For disabled persons parking bay applications

When processing applications for disabled persons parking bay applications, we will contact the Blue Badge Team at Kent County Council and use your information to verify that your blue badge is valid. Kent County Council will not use this information for any other reasons, and they have to look after it in the same way we would. You can view their privacy information on their website.

When processing applications for disabled persons parking bays, your address will be shared with those most likely to be affected by the introduction of a bay on the highway. This includes nearby residents, police, fire service, ambulance service, Logistics UK (formerly the Freight Transport Association), the Road Haulage Association and the operators of any bus service company using your road. They will only use your address to assess the likely impact on their service. We won’t share any of your other information, and it will not be used for any other reasons.

What are your rights in relation to the personal information we process?

  • Access – you can request copies of any of your personal information that is held by the council.
  • Rectification – you can ask us to correct any incorrect information.
  • Deletion – you can ask us to delete your personal information. The council can refuse to delete information if we have a lawful reason to keep this.
  • Portability – you can ask us to transfer your personal data to different services or to you.
  • Right to object or restrict processing – you have the right to object to how your data is being used and how it is going to be used in the future.
  • Right to prevent automatic decisions – you have to challenge a decision that affects you that has been made automatically without human intervention, for example an online form with an instant decision.

We will only keep your information for as long as is needed. When we no longer need it, the information will be kept for a set period (a retention period) but not used. We are strongly committed to data security and will take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or corruption. We have put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard the information you provide to us.

We want to ensure any information we hold is accurate. You can help us by promptly informing us of any changes to the information we hold about you.
